SMITHA RADHAKRISHNAN: What
possibilities exist for a fairer world? Social change sounds like a great thing. But what do we mean when we say that? Change for whom? And how? In Global Social Change, we will
reflect on these tough questions. We explore the rise of
garment work in Bangladesh, talk to a researcher who
participated in a labor walkout at a high-end men’s
suit factory in Mexico. We chat with a Chinese
sweatshop activist and meet the owner of
one of the oldest textile manufacturers in the United States. Along the way, we open up big
questions about global economic flows, cultural power, and the
potential for ordinary citizens to transform our communities. Put your global sociological
imagination to work in this final installment of Wellesley
College’s Global Sociology series. I’m Smitha Radhakrishnan. Welcome to Global Social Change.
