Why It’s Important to Care about Pancreatic Cancer | Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month

I actually don’t have a direct
connection to pancreatic cancer but a few years back my cousin’s toddler was diagnosed with a very aggressive brain tumor with very low survival rates, and our community really gathered around her and supported her. I really wanted to find a way to give back to my community, and so one day, I just happened to see PanCAN online and so I looked a little bit more into pancreatic
cancer and I realized that the survival rates were also very low and it was also very aggressive and I realized, this is it. This is what I’m meant to do and it’s just so very relevant. I think it’s important to care because I mean, we all have some sort of cancer that has touched our lives. It may not be pancreatic cancer necessarily, but any form of cancer that really is this
aggressive and has such a low survival rate… if we can solve the mystery of pancreatic cancer we should be able to solve mysteries of other cancers as
well, that are potentially difficult to find answers to. So I think it’s important to care about our communities even if there’s something
that’s important that hasn’t happened to us, to just have empathy for the other
people around us. You know, a lot of people don’t know at all what pancreatic cancer is until you get it and when you get it or you know someone who’s gotten
it, it just hugely devastates your family and your life. It just makes a big impact on your life and so the more we know, the more the world
knows about pancreatic cancer, the more we can come together to prevent that from happening to future families.
